Career experience of James Drummond, including work before Yellow Melon.

Start with the bottleneck in your business.

You don’t need a technical specification. Bring the process that is slowing your team down. These are examples of the problems we can explore together.

“We keep entering the same information twice.”

System integrations

Connect the tools you already use so information moves between them, with checks and clear handling when something goes wrong.

“Our team loses hours on repetitive tasks.”

Workflow automation

Map the process and automate repeatable steps such as collecting data, sending updates or preparing reports. Keep human approval where judgment matters.

“Spreadsheets have become our operating system.”

Internal business tools

Build a shared place to manage work, see progress and keep records consistent, with access appropriate to each person’s role.

“We need custom software, but have no development team.”

Complete project delivery

Scope and deliver a product or business system, from the first discussion through deployment, documentation and agreed ongoing support.

A small, well-defined first project.

Start with one workflow. Establish how much time it takes, where errors happen and what improvement would be worthwhile. Then agree a fixed scope, budget and success criteria. James directs delivery, involving specialist developers where needed, and remains responsible for the result.

AI is used where it helps the task and can be reviewed reliably. Sensitive information, access permissions and approval steps are considered before implementation.

Work directly with the person responsible for your software.

James Drummond is a senior full-stack developer. He spent over ten years in fintech, previously security cleared, working on a product whose end clients included Credit Suisse, JP Morgan and UK government agencies. Since 2021 he has worked with Universal Music Group on a deal-management and accounting platform that processes over a billion transactions a month.

Along the way he was lead front-end developer at allsaints.com, built the front end of a card-trading game used by Premier League clubs with one of London's top design studios, and founded and sold his own SaaS product, Smoothbook. His current work spans agent-driven development workflows, AI testing and deployment infrastructure. He combines that hands-on experience with the judgment to set agent boundaries, build in human review and take software through to production. He completed Johns Hopkins University's Agentic Engineering program in 2026.

  • 10+ years in fintech — product end clients included Credit Suisse, JP Morgan and UK government agencies
  • Previously security cleared for financial-services and government work
  • Universal Music Group since 2021 — accounting platform handling 1 billion+ transactions a month
  • Founded and exited Smoothbook — a SaaS product acquired in 2024

AI speed. Engineering discipline.

Move faster. Build it properly.

James uses AI and agentic tools to accelerate development, backed by the experience to architect complex systems, direct the work and take it through to production. Speed comes with clear requirements, testing and human judgment throughout.

Architecture before acceleration

Get the foundations right: system boundaries, data models, integrations and failure handling. Give agents a clear design to work within, so faster development produces a system you can maintain and extend.

Ownership from first conversation to production

One experienced lead across client discussions, requirements, architecture, development, QA, deployment and server management. Decisions account for how the software will run, as well as how it gets built.

Human review. Measurable checks.

Define acceptance criteria, test the logic and check real user journeys. Build human approval into consequential steps, and evaluate AI outputs where a passing unit test alone cannot establish quality.

The right tool for the task

Use agents where exploration and iteration help. Use deterministic code where rules must be repeatable, and human judgment where context and accountability matter. Set boundaries for what agents can do and when they must stop for review.
