Legal tech

Software for law firms and legaltech startups.

Practice management, document automation and AI-assisted legal work — built with the confidentiality and audit controls the profession actually requires.

Why legal tech is different

Privilege. Confidentiality. Audit. Every decision bends around them.

Legal tech has all the usual SaaS engineering challenges plus a layer most industries never have to think about: privilege-safe architecture. It is not enough for software to be secure — client data has to be handled in ways that don't inadvertently waive privilege, that satisfy professional-conduct rules, and that a firm's general counsel can explain comfortably to insurers.

The arrival of AI has raised the stakes further. Used right, AI tools can transform document review, discovery, drafting and research. Used wrong — on the wrong plan, with the wrong retention settings, shipped by someone who didn't think about training data — they become a professional-responsibility problem waiting to happen.

Yellow Melon builds legal tech software with those constraints in mind from architecture onwards, not bolted on at the end.

What we build

Legal tech projects we're well-suited for.

Practice & matter management

Purpose-built matter management, time tracking, billing and client-portal systems for firms that have outgrown generic legal SaaS suites.

Document automation

Template-driven drafting, clause libraries, questionnaire-to-document pipelines. AI-accelerated where it's appropriate — supervised by default.

AI-assisted legal research & review

Document review, discovery assistance, contract analysis — implemented with privilege-safe architecture (no training on client data, retention controls, audit trails).

Internal workflow tools for firms

Intake forms, conflict checks, onboarding flows, reporting dashboards — the internal software that makes a law practice run smoothly without needing a dedicated IT team.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

How do you handle privilege and confidentiality when using AI?

Carefully and explicitly. AI tools used on client data must be on plans that don't train on inputs, with retention and logging controls. We set these up correctly from day one and document the architecture so your firm can explain it to clients and regulators.

Do you understand legal industry workflows?

We're not lawyers, and we don't pretend to be. But we've worked in adjacent regulated industries (financial services, enterprise accounting) where audit, confidentiality and correctness are also the whole game. We ask a lot of questions and take the workflows seriously.

Can you integrate with Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, iManage, etc.?

Yes — most legal-tech projects need to talk to existing practice management or document management systems. We scope the integrations explicitly at the start.

Is a law firm a good fit for a rapid MVP engagement?

Yes, especially for specific internal tooling problems — intake automation, a bespoke reporting dashboard, a document-assembly proof of concept. See rapid MVP development.
