Yellow Melon Inc. is a Delaware-based software studio founded by James Drummond — a senior full-stack developer combining a decade of production experience with agentic AI workflows.
The founder
Over a decade of software that had to work.
James Drummond has spent his career working in environments where software failure isn't an option. He was a senior front-end developer on allsaints.com — a million-visitor fashion e-commerce platform with sales days regularly exceeding £1M. He delivered deal-management and accounting software for Universal Music Group with the team at Ingrooves (now Virgin Music Group). He was security cleared to work on software for the London financial services sector.
In parallel, he built Smoothbook.co — an online appointments platform serving hundreds of businesses worldwide, processing 120,000+ bookings and $100,000+ in transactions every month. Smoothbook was acquired by a US company in 2024.
Yellow Melon is the continuation of that work. The positioning is simple: senior engineering judgment, combined with agentic AI workflows. AI tools have made it possible for a single experienced developer to deliver what used to require a full team — but only if the person driving them has the experience to know what to build, how to structure it, and where the real risks are.
James is currently completing a Certificate in Agentic Engineering from the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, staying on the absolute edge of what's possible with AI in production software.
